Jenson Button: “It’s been an incredibly difficult couple of days since Suzuka. We’ve all been waiting to hear the news on Jules’ progress; he’s been constantly in my thoughts. We all know that Formula 1 is dangerous, but it takes something like this to really bring it home.

“I travel to Russia feeling sad, but with love and hope in my heart for Jules and his family.

Equally, I’ll be thinking of everybody at Marussia. It’s at times like these that you realise just how much Formula 1 is one big family. We all live and work for each other, and I hope they’ll all stay strong during this difficult time.”

Kevin Magnussen: “Sunday at Suzuka was one of the hardest and most difficult days I’ve ever experienced at a racetrack. Travelling to Russia just a few days after Japan, I think everyone’s still left with a feeling of numbness about what happened to Jules during the closing laps of the race – it was such a terrible accident.

“While we go racing again in Russia this weekend, we know that Jules won’t be here with us, which is extremely sad. At this time, all my thoughts are very much with Jules, his family and his team. Jules, we’re all thinking of you.”
